Domestic Abuse Legal Advocacy Center, PSC (DALAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit law firm that provides pro bono legal services to victims and survivors of domestic violence to shelters’ residents that our organization collaborates with in the Twin Cities.

We are in need of volunteer attorneys to provide pro bono services for in-court representation (need is on-going) for Order for Protections (OFP) and eviction expungements. We assign volunteer attorneys on a case-by-case basis as clients are in need of an OFP (Order for Protection) and for eviction expungements. For in-court representation cases, attorneys must meet with clients at the shelter (the use of remote technology is not allowed because of security concerns and the need for confidentiality of our client’s current address). One of the goals of our program is to eliminate transportation barriers, which is why it is required that attorneys go to the respective shelter, rather than having the client come to the attorney.

To volunteer, you must be a licensed attorney in Minnesota, in good standing. DALAC provides malpractice insurance for its volunteer attorneys. In addition, our volunteer attorneys are eligible to claim CLE credit for pro bono legal representation as allowed under the CLE rules. Furthermore, our organization provides training at no cost to attorneys who volunteer with our organization. In addition, we provide experienced attorneys to second chair cases for attorneys who wish to have that additional assistance.

As attorneys, we are in a position to influence change during this tumultuous time in the lives of our clients. We know that a consistent advocate helps remove barriers to success. Armed with information, resources, and a knowledgeable attorney, our clients can look towards their future and for those in need of one, have a voice in the courtroom.
